All great movements are commonly traceable to one great principle. It is preeminently so as regards the Reformation. Its manifold developments, political, scientific, and literary, as well as theological, can all be traced up to one primordial principle: the substitution of a divine for a human authority. This is the primordial truth of the Reformation.
