The rabbis thought the prophecies centered around them. And Jesus said, the prophecies center around me. And the rabbis weren’t willing to accept that, so they crucified him. That’s why the elders, the chief priests, the scribes, the teachers of the law, pressured Pontius Pilate to put Jesus to death, because they had a fundamental misunderstanding of prophecy.
