The following is the substance of an address given by Mr. Silversides at the Annual Meeting of the James Begg Society in Partick Burgh Hall, Glasgow, on Friday 30th May 1997.
Continue reading →When the Reformation was set on foot in the sixteenth century, this great work was everywhere justified and conducted on the general principle, “That the Pope, or at least the church of Rome, was Antichrist.”
Continue reading →THE HIGHEST RANKING men of the Roman Catholic Church, next to the pope, are a group of “cardinals.” The Bible says that Christ placed apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers in his church (Eph. 4:11). But we never find any indication that he ordained a group of cardinals.
Continue reading →NIMROD, THE KING and founder of Babylon, was not only its political leader, he was its religious leader also. He was a priest-king. From Nimrod descended a line of priest-kings—each standing at the head of the occult Babylonian mystery religion.
Continue reading →Standing at the head of the Roman Catholic Church is the pope of Rome. This man—according to Catholic doctrine—is the earthly head of the church and successor of the apostle Peter. According to this belief, Christ appointed Peter as the first pope, who in turn went to Rome and served in this capacity for twenty-five years.

Continue reading →“Lawlessness,” again, is a distinctive feature of this “man of sin.” He is “the lawless one”—not so much, I think, that he disregards laws, like rebels and traitors, but that he sets himself above all law, except his own, which he imposes upon his subjects (the office-bearers and members of the Church) in daring opposition to the law of God.
Continue reading →“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels (see Eph. iii. 10) going forth to war with the dragon and his angels (see Eph. vi. 12); and the dragon warred, and his angels, and they prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven”
Continue reading →We break down why we reject the Catholic papacy as Christians, and highlight the “mafia-esque” era of the papacy, where popes were murdered by their successors and political power replaced pastoral care.
Continue reading →The leading maxims on which the Protestant interpretations of the prophecies are based have now been examined and are shown to rest on firm and solid proofs. The objections urged against them of late, with so much assiduity and zeal, are found, on a closer search, to be without any real warrant either in Scripture or sound reason, and would lead, by a natural consequence, to universal scepticism and unbelief.
Continue reading →If Romanism is good enough for Romanists, it is good enough for everybody. If not good enough for Romanists, it is not good enough for anybody.
Continue reading →Peter authorizes faith in Christ rather than in an organization. Rome claims that the church and the church alone is the depository of the truth of God.
Continue reading →An amazing speech during the papacy of Pope Pius IX, in the 19th century from a Roman Catholic bishop to other bishops in the Vatican proving from the Bible that the office of the papacy is not scriptural.
Continue reading →For Jesus to associate Peter with Him in work is one thing. To distinguish Peter above the apostles is quite another. To declare that his name was Peter, or rock, or to promise to build the church on this apostle rather than on Christ, are two widely different utterances.
Continue reading →The Popes of Rome misinterpret the Words of Jesus to Peter to claim authority over all the churches. Jesus never made Peter the head of the Church. It’s was the faith of Peter calling Jesus the Christ that the Church is built upon, not on Peter himself.
